Sylvia never learned how to cook anything growing up! Her desperate lack of cooking skills eventually led her to drop everything and attend culinary school at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, RI, after living abroad in a pub in London. She eventually worked in restaurants and hotels around the world to help build her confidence in the kitchen. Sylvia later returned to school at Hunter College in NYC to study Nutrition and Food Science, leading her to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). Since then, she has worked in non-profit organizations and schools for over ten years while eventually studying to become a Certified Culinary Nutrition Instructor and Program Coach. She continues to volunteer for a Regional Food Bank while learning and advocating for food and sustainability initiatives.

Sylvia moved from NYC to Boulder, CO, where she loves to do yoga, go on hikes, attempt to grow food in her garden, and travel to learn about different cultures and cuisines worldwide. She loves cooking and sharing food because it brings people together in the community!

Who We Are

The Chef Ann Foundation is dedicated to promoting whole-ingredient, scratch-cooking in schools. Scratch-cooking enables schools to serve the healthiest, tastiest meals so that kids are well-fed and ready to learn.

Our Mission

Ensure that school food professionals have the resources, funding and support they need to provide fresh, healthy, delicious, cook from scratch meals that support the health of children and our planet.

Why School Food Matters

American kids start their life-path in K–12 schools where they learn the skills necessary to thrive & meet their potential. While the country debates the best ways to teach them math, science & English, we spend little to no time on food & nutrition.
