Senior School Food Operations Specialist

Sal is one of our newest Senior School Food Operations Specialists. In his role, he is focused on working with our programs team, school food operations team, school food vendors, and school district partners to support increasing scratch cooking.

Originally from New York, Sal fell in love with cooking. After High School, he got his feet wet working in the restaurant industry. To further sharpen his skills, Sal went to the Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park NY. After graduation he worked in great restaurants in Manhattan, Chicago, Florida and Colorado. Having a love for food opened his eyes to the financial side of the business with focus on food and labor cost strategies. Eventually becoming a corporate trainer on back of house operations for a national company. Sal Joined the Boulder Valley School District in 2008. Sal immediately immersed himself in the school food revolution happening with Chef Ann and her team over the next six years. Now rejoining the Chef Ann Foundation he is excited to assist School Food Programs on going back to Scratch Cooking.

In his spare time, Sal loves cooking, kayaking, and cycling. As a proud father of triplets, Sal enjoys spending time with family and friends hosting dinners and BBQ’s.

Who We Are

The Chef Ann Foundation is dedicated to promoting whole-ingredient, scratch-cooking in schools. Scratch-cooking enables schools to serve the healthiest, tastiest meals so that kids are well-fed and ready to learn.

Our Mission

Ensure that school food professionals have the resources, funding and support they need to provide fresh, healthy, delicious, cook from scratch meals that support the health of children and our planet.

Why School Food Matters

American kids start their life-path in K–12 schools where they learn the skills necessary to thrive & meet their potential. While the country debates the best ways to teach them math, science & English, we spend little to no time on food & nutrition.
